"We have been an Aperto customer for some time and know that PacketMAX is the ideal solution for our offerings... Like many service providers, we are concerned with the cost of deploying and managing WiMAX... with Aperto's WaveCenter EMS product, PacketMAX lets us serve a huge number of customers with exceptional QoS and reliability."

Aperto Networks has been a leading contributor to IEEE 802.16 and ETSI HiperMAN standards, making sure that key technical features such as QoS and link adaptation enhancements were supported to stringent carrier requirements. Aperto Networks was the first company to deliver IEEE 802.16-class systems in 2000. In 2006, PacketMAX 5000 was the first system to receive WiMAX Forum certification for full compliance to 802.16-2004 standard.

Aperto has been at the forefront of developing and certifying products based on the IEEE 802.16e-2005. The PacketMAX series for mobile WiMAX includes a complete suite of compact base stations, macro base stations, mobile terminals, desktop units, traffic aggregation gateways and subscriber billing solutions. Aperto has made wireless broadband more accessible to the masses by extending WiMAX technology to products operating in the license-exempt spectrum.

These achievements have reinforced the momentum for conquering new technology frontiers at Aperto labs. This section describes the technologies responsible for making the award-winning PacketMAX solution one of the leading brands in convergent communications.

PacketMAX Technology

Technical Firsts:

  • First to implement carrier-class QoS profiles (up to 16 service flows) to support simultaneous voice and tiered data services.
  • First to enable up to six different adaptive link parameters per subscriber for high throughput, peak performance, and interference resilience.
  • First to support a medium access control (MAC) scheme using burst mode time division multiple access (TDMA) that can scale from a few users to hundreds per sector.
  • First in the industry to offer enhanced IP networking functionality such as virtual LAN (VLAN) support, IP routing, DHCP server and
